Sony Alpha DSLR-A550 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) Review
I remember sitting in an outdoor cafe in St. Martin on the French side, with my Canon EOS camera on the table. I was alone, overlooking the bay of Marigot and I would be on a boat going to sea when a man asked if he could give me. Not what you think, all the other tables were full of couples or more. I was the only F & Dining (really) alone. So I told the Dutch colleague nice, "Sure, no problem."
He sat down immediately after a smallDigital camera to the sea, and drove a couple of shots, then showed me on a small LCD screen. Damn, I thought. Digital photography can capture only.
And he did, but I have not made the leap from film to digital until the summer of 2006, six years after meeting the man in Marigot. Why it took me so long, I do not know. The laundry room I was in a dark room, perhaps transformed. I was a pseudo-, photo-taking snobs who thought the film was made better, probably. I was an idiotsure.
My ex, even taking a photo snob, was the house, the darkroom, my heart is in the divorce and I threw in all my gear and moved into an apartment on the beach. Huntington Beach, where I see the ocean from my front door. Many of the surf there. You can see Catalina on a clear day and the pollution that makes for beautiful sunsets. The sunrise over the sea is beautiful, too.
And there was no space for a darkroom in my small apartment, I decided it was time to go digital and Ipurchased a new Sony Alpha 100 and I liked it. Instead, the update of the body from year to year, I focused on the lenses and now I have a lot. Alpha 100, but my body is long in the tooth, so it is an upgrade of an Alfa 550 and Wowza, this is a camera.
Larger, 14.2 megapixels, a bright three-inch LCD. The resolution is so good, it can be read even in bright sunlight. The live view is great, but there is no video, you can find on Canon and Nikon, but I do not make the video so thatmiss it. The camera takes both SD cards and Memory Stick.
This camera is equipped with bells and whistles it has. Integrated, which helps the price of the lenses off, five frames per second shooting with autofocus, not seven. Want to Face? This camera is equipped. Smile of recognition, although I think it is excessive and that do not use it. I could always go on about this camera features, but all the bells and whistles of the world is not worth a hill of beans, if notand deliver this camera really delivers. For me it is noise, because I do a lot of bad lighting conditions. I have the noise at ISO 800 and on my Alpha 100, but not now. Shot at 6400 ISO and you'll see any noise. 12.800, you can shoot and it is not clear, depending on what you photograph.
And the camera feels right in your hands. They say it is not a professional camera, because it is full screen. Well, that's just crazy talk, because if not completely fillYour dreams photo with this camera, can not be called a true professional.

YOU WON’T REGRET UPGRADING TO THIS CAMERA – Viridiana Serrano – Fontana, CA United States
I had a Sony Alpha 350 and Canon 50D. The Sony Alpha 550 Sony Alpha 350 to fully meet all aspects (low-light performance, AF speed, AF point system, equipment, planning, etc..) Alfa 550 also exceeds the Canon 50D compared to the benefits in terms of low light: The Sony Alpha 550 creates beautiful and peaceful images in low light at ISO 800: The Canon 50D is 'strong' at ISO 800 and above. The technology of the Alpha 550 HDR is amazing and once again before the Canon 50D.Focus Live View is also amazing, so right from the screen, not like the Canon 50D AF agonizingly slow (2-4 seconds required for the auto focus and interrupt the picture) do that. Lastly, the Alfa 550 to provide menus awesome tutorials, so you know, all the settings for one, chose the setting, and also search for self facial recognition, focus and proper development fire almost perfect. Not regret it, use the camera to high-end DSLR.
Excellent advanced entry-level camera – Justin Miller –
I also updated to improve the car out of the DSLR-A300, hoping that some evolutionary changes, which have a voice strong and reliable camera. I am an expert marksman, as the manual control of the contact, and tend to many animals and shooting action shots, and shooting in low light conditions. The A550 was perfect for my needs – ergonomic, like a great fit as the A300, but more suitable with push-button and the functionality of the menu. Image quality as good as a low ISOA300 solid, but a completely different league to higher ISO (I've been able to up to ISO1600 for the A300, as I comfortably can print at ISO 6400 with the A550). Focus is very fast and precise auto focus tracking of moving objects quite well, the chassis is surprisingly fast continuous focus images at 5 frames per second, with or without 7fps, LCD is nice, the optical viewfinder, finally, even with competitors, the stabilization more effective, extended dynamic much more useful with 5 settings and autoand not only the function HDR dynamic, but also as a tool to use stacks of images for less noise and more detail at higher ISO too. The battery life is amazing, and congratulations to Sony for the display of battery life in exact proportion to their Webcam entry in contrast with its competitors. The live view is simply the best on the market, period. I usually shoot OVF, but sometimes, if I do the live view, quick live view mode, as if a P & S camera in the world – no delaythe focus and shutter speed to all. This is 100% functionally live for the average user, there is a special lens tripod only seen live, as usual elsewhere. For those who want to focus on manual skill and precision, the MF provides the option Live View mode, with up to 14x zoom 920k excellent LCD, which provides maximum precision even in almost complete darkness. I bought this camera as I have the excellent Sony 18-250mm F3.5-4.5 lens and a Sigma 30 millimeters F1.4,Tamron 10-24mm F3.5-4.5, EF 200-500mm F5-6.3, Minolta and 50 mm F1.7. The search for a semi-professional cameras, the A550 will probably be too restrictive in a controlability total and some important functions for specific types of pro or photo enthusiast … can search for an entry level DSLR camera excellent, or an update for a base entry-level DSLR, the A550 will be a perfect choice to be found.

2. Great performance in low light (I Do not Need Flash most of the time)
3. Easy to use (simplified menu options)

5. Ability to use Minolta lenses to get cheap beautiful images.
6. Built in Image Stabilization
7. Smile Shutter technology is pretty
